Don’t underestimate the importance of local music, singer Chito Miranda had this to say after a rowdy audience prompted the cancellation of the Asean Music Festival on Tuesday night.

“Sana nextym hindi na ma-underestimate kung gaano kabuhay ang local music scene,” Miranda, the “Parokya ni Edgar” band frontman, said this exactly on his Twitter on Wednesday.

(I hope next time they would not underestimate the [importance] of local music scene, which is very much alive)

“Di daw kasi nila ine-expect na ganun kadami ang pupunta kaya di nila napaghandaan ng maayos. Buti nalang walang major injuries (They said they did not expect that many people would come, that’s why they were not able to properly prepare for it. Good thing there was no major injury)” Miranda added.

The singer expressed hope that the incident would serve as a lesson for the organizers to better prepare next time.

The music festival, which was held at the Ayala Triangle in Makati City, was called off after it was reported that the crowd became rowdy when some people in the audience tried to get near the stage after “Parokya Ni Edgar’s” set had just finished.

An estimate of 15,000 people attended the festival. /jpv
