For “Strangers Things 2” stars Sadie Sink, 15, and Dacre Montgomery, 24, working on Netflix’s popular science-fiction show gave them a glimpse of what it was like growing up in the 1980s.
Asked by the Inquirer what about that particular decade they found fascinating, Sadie, who plays Max, said: “As far as social media or technology goes, there are certain things we have now that people get addicted to. There were none of that in the ’80s. Kids went outside and played rather than being on their phones all the time.”
Meanwhile, Dacre, who portrays Billy, said he was envious of the sense of freedom children in the ’80s enjoyed. “My childhood coincided with the turn of the century, in the 2000s, when most parents were more afraid to let their kids go outside, because of “stranger danger” … all of those things,” he said.
“But the kids in the show are more uninhibited. They’re having adventures. And it was interesting for me to watch, because I didn’t have that. I did camping, but I didn’t get to ride my bike to the wilderness and discover my own demons or Demogorgons, so I think that’s cool!” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
