Four months after admitting that he and athlete-turned-TV host Gretchen Ho have broken up, TV host Robi Domingo said he’s still not ready for a new love, and would often turn down offers from friends to set him up with other girls.

“I still can’t decide what to do with my life after what happened. I just want to reassess everything first, and I don’t think I’d be able to do that if I get back in the dating game immediately,” Robi said. He dated the former member of the Ateneo Blue Eagles volleyball team for over four years.

The 28-year-old said his former classmates from Ateneo or colleagues in ABS-CBN would often play matchup for him, “but I just tell them I’m busy, or don’t show up. I know they understand. I want to give myself time. I don’t want to hurt another person’s feelings.”

As to whether he was still open to the possibility of reconciling with Gretchen, 27, Robi answered in the affirmative, but added that “right now, I’m sticking to the right side of things.” He explained: “If ever I decide to pursue her, then that’s it. There’s no turning back. I can’t commit mistakes anymore.”

Robi said they’re now getting more comfortable hosting events together. “That awkward feeling can’t be helped, because we were both hurt by what happened. If this would show while we’re onstage, it’s simply because we’re hosts and not actors. I can’t pretend to be OK if I’m not. That’s also why I don’t have acting jobs,” Robi said during the recent launch of Sun Life Financial’s #SunpiologyDUO event.

According to Robi, it’s not unusual for people to tease him and Gretchen when they’re seen together. When that happens, he often takes the cue from Gretchen.

“I’d ask for her permission if we could play along with it,” he said. “If she says she’s not comfortable, then I’d respect her decision. I would first think of how she would feel, rather than give the crowd what it wants.”
