Fil-Ams should take time to learn Filipino

Ruben Sanico, accountant, shares: “Fil-Am actors who aren’t fluent in Filipino should find time to learn our national language, so they won’t be limited to doing the same balikbayan roles again and again. The same problem exists with actors who grew up in Mindanao and the Visayas.
“This is not an insult to their being Bisaya speaking, but I find it discomfiting to listen to them mispronouncing Tagalog words, thus ruining a scene, especially when it’s dramatic. Like their Fil-Am counterparts, they should also find time to learn how to speak the language properly.”

Patty Ramirez, housewife: “I find GMA 7’s ‘Protégé’ a wonderful showcase for our next singing idols, but I think the mentors/judges’ exchanges that border on insult distract viewers from the competition itself. Nakakasawa na silang pakinggan. Just let the contestants sing, period!
Exciting to watch
Gina Albano, nurse: “One show that I find exciting to watch is TV5’s ‘Anggulo,’ which features only one guest per episode, thus covering many issues related to the guest. One episode that I watched had Supreme Court spokesperson, Atty. Midas Marquez, as its guest.
“As expected, Marquez was ‘grilled’ on the controversial video that raised questions about his sexuality. To the interviewer’s credit, she handled that particular portion well without embarrassing her guest.”
Rose Calumpong, televiewer: “Aside from being dubbed as the Face That Refreshes, Susan Roces is also magnanimity personified. I chanced upon her on TV recently, and I was moved by her statements wishing former president GMA well and praying for her recovery. She’s truly worth emulating!
