WATCH: ’Blade of the Immortal’ trailer previews gory samurai movie

A new English subtitled trailer for “Blade of the Immortal” showcases a bit more gore and blood splatter to whet the appetite of director Takashi Miike fans.

“Blade of the Immortal” is the movie adaptation of a Japanese manga of the same title by Hiroaki Samura. Set in Japan’s mid-Tokugawa Shogunate era, the story follows cursed samurai Manji. Due to circumstances, Manji cannot die and can even reattach limbs after being cleanly severed. He must kill 1,000 men to regain his mortality.

Takashi Miike is well-known as a prolific director and has become notorious in depicting scenes of extreme violence and sexual perversions in the movies that he helms. He is also directing the upcoming movie adaptation for “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable”.

Considering the theme for “Blade of the Immortal”, it appears that Miike is the right man for the job, as seen in the bloody sequences of this trailer. It’s a theme that should be worthy of the director’s 100th movie.

“Blade of the Immortal” premiered in Japan back in April 29. It will start showing in American theaters starting November 3. It stars one of Japan’s most successful celebrities, actor and singer Takuya Kimura in the role of Manji. JB
