‘Lion King’ director retracts earlier statement, says Mufasa and Scar are brothers

The internet was sent abuzz last week, when “Lion King” director Rob Minkoff and producer Don Hahn suggested that main characters Mufasa and Scar—who were perceived as brothers for years—were not from the same gene pool.
Shocked fans of the 1994 Disney animated classic took to Twitter to air their disbelief over the matter, which Minkoff soon took notice.

Speaking to online movie magazine Screen Junkies, the 55-year-old filmmaker said that the two alpha males of “Pride Rock” were indeed blood brothers.
“We got into trouble,” he described the backlash that ensued from his earlier revelation. “In fact, it got printed recently that we said that Scar and Mufasa were not brothers, but they are. I just want to clear that up, just in case that hit your radar.”
In reality, it’s rare for two adult male lions to stay in the same pride, but Minkoff said that the two were most likely exceptions to the rule.
He also suggested that Mufasa was the one who scarred Scar, hence giving him the nickname, while they were lion cubs. /ra
