MTV’s iconic “Unplugged” series, which featured intimate, acoustic performances from Nirvana, Eric Clapton and more, is getting a reboot that will begin airing this fall.
Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes will be in the spotlight for the first instalment of the new “Unplugged”, which is due to premiere September 8. Mendes’s sophomore album “Illuminate” debuted at the top of the United States Billboard chart, and he is nominated in the Best Pop categories for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Future shows will feature “an eclectic, superstar lineup of global pop culture artists,” according to MTV.
“MTV Unplugged” debuted in 1989 and has featured performances by Jay-Z, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, Tori Amos, R.E.M., Adele and more. In the new version of the franchise, performances will take place in locations around the U.S. that “hold special meaning to each artist.”
“MTV Unplugged Shawn Mendes” airs Thursday, September 8 at 8pm ET/PT. JB
