When nothing in your life makes sense, make sure not to lose your sense of humor. So laugh your heart out and watch Regal Films’ “Woke Up Like This.” The movie’s trailer has garnered 10 million views online.

It’s topbilled by Lovi Poe and Vhong Navarro. Since they’re from rival networks, it’s refreshing to see them together onscreen.
In the film, their characters are trapped in each other’s bodies. The mystery behind the switch leads to hilarious twists.

Vhong’s “controversial” life is no laughing matter. Yet, the comic in him still manages to tickle our funny bone.

Here’s my chat with Vhong:
What advice will you give your son about love and women? That there are different types of women—I’m speaking from experience (laughs). There are those who will try to change you, some will give you their all and … [others] will accept you the way you are.

In any relationship, what matters is they’re both whole as an individual, so they don’t need to complete each other. [Do] not give all your love. You must leave some for yourself.

When do you intend to settle down? Marriage is a commitment not just to my partner, but also to myself and to God. Marriage must be able to endure the trials when we find it hard to love.

I have found the one for me. Because of her, my trauma of marriage is gone. We’re just praying for God’s perfect timing for us to get hitched.

What have you learned from the controversies you’ve been through? Being faithful, choosing the right friends, whom to trust, the importance of family and, most importantly, to be God-fearing. Only He can see everything.

What don’t people know about Vhong Navarro? That I am not flexible. I cannot even sit Indian-style because it hurts (laughs).

In line with your movie’s title, what are your “wake-up rituals?” I pray. I have become more prayerful, and it’s such a wonderful feeling.

What’s the best and toughest part about being Vhong? The best is that I have supportive friends and family. In show biz and with all the controversies I’ve been through, I’m lucky I have friends who stand by me. I have loyal fans who gave me a second chance, and bosses and colleagues who continue to believe in me.

The toughest would be my looks. It’s hard to portray dramatic roles if you aren’t as handsome as Piolo Pascual (laughs).

Seriously, the toughest would be the trials that came my way. But I know God has a reason for all of this, and I just keep my heart and mind open to the lessons that He wants to teach me through all the controversies.

If you could travel back in time, what would you do differently? I would have finished my studies and fulfilled my dream to become a pilot.

If your life story would be made into a movie, what would the title be? “Living La Vida Vhongga” or “Vhongga Ka, ’Day” (laughs)!
