Jessy Mendiola opened up on body insecurities in a recent Instagram post.
The photo shows an illustration of legs with the words, “Don’t hate your legs; they take you places.”
The “Salvage” actress wrote, “There will be moments when your insecurities will be bigger (literally) than your confidence but always look at the bright side. Not feeling awesome today, but i’m fighting it.”
An Instagram user accused her of having a confusing message, stating that while the actress claimed to “embrace your body and be confident” she kept “whining about insecurities.”
“Ano ba talaga advocacy mo? (What’s your true advocacy?)” pressed the commenter.
Jessy’s mom, Didith Garvida explained in a reply, “[Loving your body] is a struggle and [Jessy] is in unison with those struggling with their [bodies].”
“Just keep fighting that feeling and be truly confident and just look at the bright side of everything,” said Garvida.
Jessy chimed in, “‘Di naman lahat ng panahon ay confident ka, basa basa din kasi pag may time nang maintindihan mo ng mabuti. Ano ka perfect? (You won’t always be confident. Read the message so you can understand it well. Are you saying you’re perfect?)”
She added, “Ang advocacy ko ay mahalin mo sarli mo, na kahit minsan hindi mo feel katawan mo pero lumalaban ka pa din para maging best version mo. (My advocacy is to love yourself even if you aren’t feeling good about yourself. You continue to fight so that you can be the best version of yourself.)”
“Kape kape din mams ng magising ka (Have some coffee too, ma’am, so you can wake up.),” she quipped.
Reacting to critics is common for Jessy who constantly defends herself from critiques on her curvy physique.
On comments on her thick thighs, she once proclaimed, “pata is life” (legs are life). JB
