15 Cinemalaya bets named

Organizers of the 8th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival have announced the finalists for its New Breed and Director’s Showcase categories. The festival is set July 20-29, 2012.

The New Breed Full-Length Feature (for directors who have not done more than three full-length features) entries: “Ang Katiwala” by Aloy Adlawan; “Ang Nawawala,” Marietta “Marie” Jamora; “Oros,” Paul Sta. Ana; “Apparition,” Vincent Sandoval and Darlene Malimas; “Dayo,” Juliuz Sotomayor Cena; “Diablo,” Mes de Guzman; “Lola Igna,” Eduardo W. Roy Jr.; “MNL 143,” Emerson Reyes; “Requieme,” Loy Arcenas; “Santa Niña,” Emmanuel Q. Palo.

The five finalists in the Directors Showcase (for directors who have done at least three commercial feature films) category: “Bwakaw” by Jun Lana; “Kalayaan” (“Wildlife”), Adolfo B. Alix Jr.; “Kamera Obskura,” Raymond Red; “Posas,” Jeffrey Jeturian; and “Mga Mumunting Lihim,” Jose Javier Reyes.

Cinemalaya is an annual digital film competition that “aims to discover, encourage and honor cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity,” organizers said in a statement. It is a project of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Film Development Council of the Philippines and Econolink Investments.
