With Christmas fast approaching, I asked some celebrities if they fell under Santa’s “naughty” or “nice” list based on how they behaved—or misbehaved—this year. I’d like to believe that I was a little of both. I’ve been naughty by falling for the wrong reasons and I’ve been nice by treating the wrong ones right.
December is the time we sort of make a “report card” for ourselves and submit it to Santa for review. We’ve all had our share of hits and misses. Be that as it may, Christmas is the sum total of all the moments and memories that have brought us both pain and joy in the year that was.
So whether we’ve been naughty or nice, all the love that goes around during Christmas is more than enough to make us not notice the difference. Or even if we did, we’d be too busy with all the merry-making to mind at all.
Derek Ramsay: “I’d definitely be on Santa’s ‘nice’ list. The nicest thing I did this year was the ‘build’ in Navotas for Habitat for Humanity. As for the naughtiest thing I did this year, it was spoiling my nephews.”
Leo Valdez: “In the naughty department, I can’t say much, so Santa must have been bored with me. I can’t say much about having been the nicest either, although there were those little smiles and laughter I shared … those smiles I put on people’s faces whenever I sing and entertain … these make me forever grateful to God for the good things I have been blessed with. Santa may find this a bit boring as well, but I kinda like it that way.”
Martin Nievera: “My ‘nice’ is naughty and my ‘naughty’ is nice. You know that moment we all work hard to reach, that magical moment where all fantasy and dreams become reality? Well it happened to me twice in one night! That’s right! I fell asleep twice in one night after days of no sleep. Why? What were you thinking? Naughty, naughty me!”
Gabby Concepcion: “Naughty! Because I ate a giant Toblerone chocolate bar in one sitting on the set of ‘PS I Love You.’ I said goodbye to my diet this week. If I keep this up until Christmas, baka sumali na ko sa ‘Biggest Loser.’ I hope Santa will be nice enough to replace that bar. Wrapper na lang natira!”
Daiana Menezes: “Both naughty and nice. Naughty, that’s why Santa may want to fine-tune me for the right soul mate who will respect me and give me beautiful kids. Nice, because I shared blessings with the less fortunate.”
Lino Cayetano: “I think I’ve been naughty. I spent too much time at work and too little time with my mom and the people I love.”
Timely toast
Stars overflowed at the recent launch of Remy Martin’s VSOP Red Holiday Bottle. It was supremely serendipitous that the recently held Red Ball, an annual fundraiser for the benefit of the Philippine Red Cross and spearheaded by Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tinga, happened to be the event where Remy Martin officially launched the VSOP Red Holiday Bottle. A timely toast to the coming holiday season.
Seen at the Red Ball were Ruffa Gutierrez, Liz Uy, Raymond Gutierrez, Phoemela Baranda, Ricky Davao, Rajo Laurel, Jean Saburit, and Richard and Lucy Gomez, among others. ’Tis the season to be merry and tipsy!
