Just a few days after Aaron Carter came out as bisexual on Twitter, the pop singer said that he’s now ready to turn the page to a new chapter in his life.

“I’m taking it one minute, one day, and one comment at a time. I’m looking forward to the future right now, and whether I choose to be with a man or woman is my decision—no one else’s,” Aaron said in an interview with the radio program, “The Bert Show.”

The former child pop star, who realized that he was attracted to both men and women when he was a little kid, said he had been considering revealing his sexual preference the past couple of years.

“It was something that I felt I needed to say. It was a part of a new chapter … of turning 30 on Dec. 7 this year,” he said.

Aaron, the younger brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, also confirmed that his recent breakup with his girlfriend was largely due to his decision to come out.

“I had discussed it with my ex-girlfriend, and she didn’t really understand it. She didn’t want to,” he related. “And that was it. We…parted ways.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
