Kapamilya heartthrob James Reid now joins the roster of celebrities who play superheroes, as he has officially been chosen to be the next Pedro Penduko.

The choice was announced in a recent Instagram post by @vivaartistsagency, Reid’s handler.

Despite remaining a human without the powers of a normal comic hero, Pedro Penduko, in the original comics, is regarded as a superhero who fights off evil forces using his magical amulet. His character was created by comics writer and illustrator Francisco Coching.

However, in the re-imagined version written by Regene Estolatan under Epik Studios, the next “chosen one” is a wimpy teen named Peter Harris raised in the US by his adoptive father.

The modern twist aims to give a new definition to the image of superheroes for the present-day audience.

As per reports, Reid, who was present at the opening day of the History Con 2017 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, said filming of the movie has begun and will continue until next year.

No release date has been announced yet.

Janno Gibbs previously played Pedro Penduko–twice for “Ang Pagbabalik ng Pedro Penduko” in 1994 and “Pedro Penduko Episode II: The Return of the Comeback” in 2000.  /ra
