Phoenix, the popular French synth-pop band behind such songs as “1901,” “Lisztomania” and “Entertainment,” is set to return to Manila for a one-night concert on Aug. 15 at Smart Araneta Coliseum, as part of its ongoing world tour, according to local promoter Karpos Multimedia (call 911-5555 for tickets).
The four-man group made up of Thomas Mars (lead vocals), Laurent Brancowitz (guitar, keyboards), Deck d’Arcy (bass, keyboards) and Christian Mazzalai (guitar), has just released its sixth studio album, “Ti Amo.” It explores the group’s “European, Latin roots, our fantasized version of Italy.”
Phoenix was formed in Versailles, France. It began releasing singles in 1999, followed by a debut album, “United,” the next year. However, it wasn’t until the release of its fourth album, “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,” in 2009 that the quartet started receiving more mainstream recognition. The group performed in Manila in 2014. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
