It’s been 16 years since socially awkward Mia Thermopolis discovered she was heir to a tiny European country. Since then, every girl hoped their long-lost royal grandmother would give them a makeover, too.

“The Princess Diaries” has so far blessed the world with two movies. The last movie, “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement” left Mia (Anne Hathaway) ruling Genovia as their new queen.

While it may have seemed like happily ever after, Meg Cabot, the author of the original novels told Entertainment Weekly that a script for a third movie exists.

Cabot revealed that it would be a tribute to director Garry Marshall, who passed away in July 2016. Actress Julie Andrews, who plays the ineffable Queen Clarisse Renaldi also told Buzzfeed in March 2017 that she and Hathaway were interested in doing a third film.

“I think we might do it in honor of him. Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to,” said Andrews.

Cabot didn’t say more than that a script was in existence: “I am not allowed to say. I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed.” She only related that it would continue to follow the story set by the movies rather than the books.

Supporters of the Genovian princess have since taken to social media to express their excitement:

They only want the most important actors back, and are rooting for Queen Mia to marry Lord Nicholas, played by Chris Pine:

Pine recently made waves as Wonder Woman’s Steve Trevor, so who better to act beside a woman in power?

Heather Matarazzo, who played Mia’s no-nonsense BFF Lilly Moscovitz in the two movies, is on the hype too:

For fans who can’t wait for a movie, Cabot has continued to write more chapters in Mia’s life. In the book “Royal Wedding”, Mia is an adult princess, while a children’s novel “From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess” is written from the perspective of Mia’s half-sister, Olivia. Niña V.
