The latest trailer for the upcoming Marvel movie “Thor: Ragnarok” showed a surprisingly more talkative Hulk. Actor Mark Ruffalo who plays the character explained why during the panel talk at San Diego Comic-Con.

Ruffalo said that The Hulk had not reverted to his alter ego Bruce Banner for around two years leading up to the events of “Thor: Ragnarok”, according to a Screen Rant report.

“Hulk refuses to turn back to Banner, and he’s actually enjoying his time on Sakaar. He’s enjoying his life for once, and he’ll be damned if he’s going back to Banner,” explained Ruffalo.

In an interview with gaming news outlet IGN, director Taika Waititi reinforced the decision to have The Hulk talk in “Thor: Ragnarok”.

“I was always fascinated by the duality of Hulk and Banner, and seeing how their brains could be interconnected,” said Waititi. “Could we sometimes see Hulk and could we have a bit of Banner’s voice in there? Could we see Banner and have Hulk’s personality through there?”

The Hulk’s capacity for speech has already been explored in the comic books. However, given the legal issues surrounding the license for The Hulk, a movie about this concept in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems far-fetched.

By exploring this in “Thor: Ragnarok”, Waititi believes it’s the best they can do for now, to give fans what they’ve been waiting to see.

As Waititi said in the report, “I think in this film we’re going to see that for the first time, where the two are fighting — really fighting this time — for control of the body.” Alfred Bayle/JB
