DC announced its official list of eight new movies at the San Diego Comic Convention which includes sequels and origin stories, but only the vaguest details.
They are as follows:
- “Suicide Squad 2”
- “The Batman“
- “Wonder Woman 2”
- “Shazam!”
- “Justice League Dark”
- “Green Lantern Corps”
- “Batgirl”
- “Flashpoint”
Some were already considered a given, like “The Batman” which, despite rumors, still stars Ben Affleck and is directed by Matt Reeves. Reeves’ previous work includes “War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Cloverfield.”
Another is “Wonder Woman 2” which, following the first movie’s box office success, was already rumored to be in the works. It is said to be set in the Cold War.
“Shazam!” will introduce DC’s own Captain Marvel (as opposed to Marvel’s Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson; a battle on rights forced DC to rename him as “Shazam”). The movie is the only one with an announced release date which is April 2019, reports Screen Rant.
In the comics, Justice League Dark features supernatural characters like Zatanna, John Constantine and Madame Xanadu.
“Green Lantern Corps” may be connected to the Justice League, as Green Lantern was made reference to in the latter’s trailer. It is set to be released in 2020.
“Batgirl” will be directed by Joss Whedon while “Flashpoint” appears to be The Flash’s standalone film. If it follows the comics, the Flash goes back in time to save his mother from being murdered—thus ripping the timeline of the DC universe. Niña V. Guno /ra
