‘Suggestive’ newscast scored

ROMERO AND GARCIA. Viewers’ delight.

Lilian Esmero, teacher, has this request: “Through your section, I’d like to call the attention of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas or whoever is in charge of monitoring local radio programs. While I was on a jeepney ride home with some high-school students, I heard a traffic update on the radio. Such updates are welcome, except that when the lady newscaster began delivering the announcement, she sounded like she was in the privacy of her bedroom, utilizing suggestive words like masikip, i-derecho, maluwag and dahan-dahan for greater effect.

“Everybody in the jeep, except me, seemed to be entertained by such crassness. I’m no prude, but I think programs like this aren’t suited for daytime programming, when impressionable youths can hear them!”

Other notes:

Pilar Sonjaco, televiewer: “It seems the sorely missed Edu Manzano has finally found his ‘home’ at TV5. Reportedly, he’ll be hosting a game show that will be launched early next year. I hope it will be an improvement on his short-lived game show in another network. TV5 should also showcase his talent as a talk-show host. Edu will surely be a welcome addition to our late-night viewing!”

MANZANO. Has found a new ‘home.’

Accent

Jess Berdera, barangay kagawad: “One TV show that truly has me in stitches isn’t even a comedy, but a game show! In addition to his being the ‘Pambansang Kamao,’ a congressman, TV and film actor, Manny Pacquiao is also a comedian, as he demonstrates on GMA 7’s ‘Manny Many Prizes.’ This isn’t an insult to the pugilist’s Bisaya accent, but I was really rolling with laughter when he addressed his guest, Lani Misalucha, as Lani Misalotsa and — later, pronounced butete as butiti!”

Nellie Gador, graphic artist: “The recent ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ episode featuring the heart-warming love story of elderly characters portrayed by Gloria Romero and Eddie Garcia was a viewer’s delight. The veterans proved that you can’t go wrong in acting when it’s truthful and comes from the heart!”
