Actor Richard Gutierrez on Thursday said a production company he owned had already settled P38.57 million in back taxes with the government, contrary to the claim of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
“As far as I am concerned, my company has filed and paid the proper taxes to the government,” Gutierrez told reporters after attending a hearing of the tax evasion case filed against him by the BIR in the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Accompanied by his mother Annabelle Rama, the actor personally submitted his counter-affidavit before the DOJ panel of prosecutors.
He argued that the criminal case against him should be dismissed for lack of probable cause.
In its complaint, the BIR said Gutierrez’s company, R. Gutz Production Corp., did not file an income tax return and pay the necessary value-added tax from April to December 2012. —MARLON RAMOS
