Justin Bieber drew flak after forgetting the lyrics to “Despacito”—the smash hit that features him in its remixed version—during a recent gig. To add insult to injury, he blurted random syllables during the song’s Spanish chorus, and replaced some words with “burrito” and “dorito.”

While some people found Justin’s actions rude, the Puerto Rican music artist behind the song, Luis Fonsi, defended the former, pointing out that Spanish is not the Canadian pop star’s “main language” and thus should be given “a little pass.”

“I mean, obviously, I’d love for him to learn it…but I don’t blame him,” Luis told ABC News Radio.

He added: “We had full-English lyrics and, yet, he decided to take the time to record it in Spanish, because he wanted to keep the originality of the song…So, I actually applaud the fact that he took the time in the recording studio to do it. And he did a great job.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
