National Youth Commission (NYC) chair Aiza Seguerra has lauded Charice Pempengco’s decision to change his name to Jake Zyrus.
Seguerra, also a transgender man like the singer, penned his heartfelt thoughts when a netizen tweeted about his not changing his name.
“I’m also a transman like Jake. Change of name? Not now. But hindi malabong mangyari iyon sa (it could still happen in the) future,” Seguerra, who also represents NYC at the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, tweeted on Wednesday.

He went on to congratulate Zyrus for his significant transformation with the hashtag #congratsjake.”Kung ang pangalan ay isa lamang hadlang sa pagpapalaya ng totoo mong pagkatao, wala akong nakikitang masama sa pagpalit nito (If one’s name is a hindrance to liberate your true personality, I don’t see anything wrong in changing it),” Seguerra expounded.

On Monday, Zyrus took to his social media pages to debut his new identity and thanked his fans for their never-ending support. His decision may have engendered harsh criticism from others, but Zyrus retaliated with his powerful tweet: “I won’t let anyone ruin this moment. I won’t let anyone ruin my happiness. Thank you for all the beautiful write ups about me.”
My first tweet as Jake. Overwhelmed. Saw all your love comments and I'm so happy. Finally. I love you, everyone and see you soon.
