Vice Ganda agreeably has one of the most successful careers in local showbiz. He has accomplished exceptional milestones that only a few comedians in the industry have been blessed with.

But despite his talent and achievements, he never forgets to credit his success to the people who helped him since the beginning. These people include veteran actress Sharon Cuneta.

Testament to Vice Ganda’s staying power is the sixth anniversary of his hit comedy talk show, “Gandang Gabi Vice” (GGV). The “Unkabogable” star had no less than the Megastar to kick off the opening of the show’s anniversary celebration.

Not a lot of people know that Vice Ganda and Cuneta are good friends. When he had the opportunity to guest the megastar on his show, he thanked her for all the help she gave him when he was starting.

(I have a lot to thank you for, not only for guesting here on GGV. I owe a lot from the Megastar. Whatever I am enjoying right now is the product of her help from way back when I was starting.)

He added that she was one of the very few who noticed him and believed that he can succeed in the business.

‘Nung wala pang masyadong pumapansin sa ‘kin, nung mga iilan-ilan pa lang, isa si Sharon Cuneta sa mga iilan-ilan pa lang na pumansin sa akin at naka-appreciate sa akin. Salamat. Hindi ko po ‘yun nakakalimutan.”

(Back when not many people were noticing my work, Sharon Cuneta was one of those very few who appreciated me. Thank you. I will never forget that.)

Vice Ganda’s career rose when he lead the box-office remake of the classic Roderick Paulate film, “Petrang Kabayo”. It was also at this time when he was established as one of the best comedians of his generation. The Megastar was happy for his success.

Ako na-mi-miss ko siya, ka-text kita after ‘Petrang Kabayo’ pa lang, sabe ko you really deserve this Vice, I’m so happy for you. Mula noon naging text mates kami. Ako ‘yung tipong ‘pag pasikat ng pasikat ‘yung ano [person], parang ako ‘yung  lumalayo,” Cuneta said.

(I miss him. We were text mates after “Petrang Kabayo”. I congratulated him and I was so happy for him. Since then, we had been text mates. I am the type who shies away from the person when he gets too famous.)

Vice remembered his days guesting at Cuneta’s show.

Akala ko ‘yun na ‘yung peak ng career ko ‘yung nag-guest ako sa Sharon Cuneta,” he said.

(I thought the peak of my career was when I guested on Sharon Cuneta’s show.)

Cuneta then flattered the comedian when she said her show improves whenever he appears.

Lagi kang guest, gumaganda ‘yung taping ko pati ako sumasaya,” she said.

(When you guest [on my show], the taping improves, and I am happy.)

Vice Ganda, above all, thanked his fans for their unwavering support for the past six years. He has started to see work in GGV as a duty.

Ngayon, ang GGV na para sa akin ay isa nang obligasyon, bilang isang mamamayan, na bigyan kayo ng dahilan ulit na tumawa sa likod ng mga nangyayaring hindi masyadong maganda sa paligid natin,” he said.

(Now, GGV for me is my obligation as a citizen. Through it, I can give people some reason to laugh despite the hardships happening in our country.) JB
