Reports this week hinted at Fergie officially quitting hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas. However, the “Fergalicious” pop singer denied this in an official statement.
Her spokesperson told Billboard, “Fergie is still in the Black Eyed Peas and has an enormous amount of love for her brothers. However, she’s currently focusing on her solo record in partnership with BMG and she’s incredibly excited for her fans to hear her new music.”
Some reports mistook an Ahlan! magazine interview with member will.i.am as a statement that Fergie, a.k.a. Stacey Ferguson had parted with the group.
He was quoted: “Since the beginning of Black Eyed Peas, we’ve always had amazing vocalists that appeared on the mic with us. People like Macy Gray, Esthero, Debi Nova, Fergie. On Elephunk, there were several females that appeared on that album.”
“Obviously Fergie was the featured female, but on songs like ‘Let’s Get it Started’, it’s Noelle [Scaggs], and then Fergie, songs like ‘Latin Girls’, it’s Debi Nova, and ‘Request Line’, it’s Macy Gray,” will.i.am said. “We’ll always work with good females.”
This had been misinterpreted that Fergie’s stay with the group was temporary and that she could possibly be replaced.
However, both will.i.am and Fergie shut rumors down.

While Black Eyed Peas, which consists of will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap, are working on a new album called “Masters of the Sun”, Fergie is working on a solo album “Double Dutchess”.
“Both can exist at the same time, and we’re really happy for Fergie,” said will.i.am.
The group, along with Fergie, popularized the songs “Where is the Love”, “Don’t Phunk with My Heart” and “I Gotta Feeling”, among other hits. Niña V. Guno/JB
