SAN FERNANDO — During the Sineng Pambansa in Pampanga, Cannes-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza announced that he will direct an episode of the ABS-CBN drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”
The episode is in line with his new pet cause: the anti-mining campaign in Palawan.
After discussing the environmental problem with Gina Lopez, managing director of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Mendoza decided to do the TV series, along with a documentary film, to popularize the issue among the masses.
A Star Cinema movie was also mentioned, but he would like to prioritize the docu and MMK.
Also in the works is a Brillante Mendoza Film Festival in SM Cinemas nationwide. He also plans to invite other internationally acclaimed Filipino filmmakers Auraeus Solito, Raya Martin and Pepe Diokno to make docus and short films on Palawan.
