Not only does Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Maria Angelica “Mariel” de Leon have beauty and intellect—she could sing, too.
In a clip posted on fashion magazine Preview’s Instagram page, the beauty queen, who is reportedly a member of an all-girl classical group called Opera Belles, sampled her vocal prowess by singing an operatic piece.
De Leon, 22, is the daughter of seasoned actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong. She will attempt to score a back-to-back win for the country in the forthcoming Miss International tilt, won last year by Kylie Verzosa.
Challenging the traditional image of beauty queens, de Leon is outspoken about contraception and the public debate on reviving capital punishment in the Philippines. Gianna Francesca Catolico/JB
