Jed Madela: My friendship with Darren Espanto is on the rocks

Because of malice other people have put on their friendship, Jed Madela revealed that he is no longer so close with Darren Espanto as before.

The veteran singer said that since last year when issues linking him to the pop star emerged, he and Espanto have never had the chance to bond with each other.

“I’ve always been a kuya to Darren ever since he started. Ngayon na (now that) he is already finding his spot in the industry, I can’t help but be very proud of him. And for these people to come to the limelight and bash and give meaning, nakakasakit ng damdamin (it hurts my feelings),” he told Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP).

Amid a fractured friendship, Madela pledged to protect Espanto from bashers and gossips. He said, “In all honesty, ngayon, hindi kami masyadong okay (now, we are not that okay). We just say ‘hi, hello,’ unlike before. I try to protect the kid. Kung iba-bash ninyo ako, okay lang. Pero kapag siya na or ‘yung ibang kaibigan ko, mas lalo akong nasasaktan (If you would bash me, it’s okay. But if [you bash] him or any of my friends, the more I will be hurt).”

Madela hopes that he and Espanto will bring back their friendship that was smeared by gossips. “Kapag maraming tao (When there are many people around), we are kind of awkward. Wala ng harutan, wala ng lokohan (No more playful moments). It’s pretty sad but that’s how the industry works,” Madela said.

“I’m a very private person, and I try to protect and value my privacy, especially my friends. For them to get bashed just because I’m their friend is very painful for me.”  Gianna Francesca Catolico /ra
