Auditions for 2017 Pinoy K-pop Star now open

The manifestations of the so-called Korean wave in the Philippines show not just in the interest of Filipinos in Korean food and Koreanovelas.

Nowadays, Filipinos can be seen following the Korean trend in fashion and beauty and also be heard singing along and dancing to Korean songs like “Fantastic Baby” of Korean boy group BigBang and “Gangnam Style” of the Youtube sensation Psy.

On Thursday, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) announced its launch of the online auditions for the 2017 Pinoy K-pop Star, an annual competition for Filipino K-pop performers and cover groups.

K-pop fans aged 18 years old and above are encouraged to upload their audition videos on YouTube and send it to Korean Cultural Centre on or before June 5. Announcement of finalists is on June 9.

The grand finals will be held on July 1, Saturday at Skydome, SM City North EDSA.

The competition have two categories – the vocal category, which is a singing competition, and the performance category, which is both a singing and dancing competition, the 2017 Pinoy K-pop Star is the Philippine finals for the 2017– KPOP World Festival which will be held on Sept. 19 to Oct. 1, 2017 in Changwon, South Korea.

The vocal category is open to solo, duo, or group singers and performance category only to group dancers.

Winners will win P20,000 and will represent the Philippines to the first round of the semi finals of the K-pop World Festival to be held online. If the Philippine representatives qualify for the grand finals, they will fly to South Korea, where the competition will be held.

Grand prize winners of the 2016 Pinoy K-pop Star competition, former grand prize winners of the Pinoy K-pop Star competition who already represented the Philippines in Korea and professional singers and dancers who have made their debut in the Philippines are no longer allowed to join the contest.
