If you missed the jam-packed—and much buzzed-about—concert, “Basil Valdez @ Solaire” last April 29, you have another chance to catch the legendary OPM balladeer’s 40th anniversary show on May 26 at The Theatre in Solaire (call TicketWorld at 891-9999 or NY Entourage Productions at 552-7473).
Basil recorded his first album, “Ngayon at Kailanman,” in 1977 and has since amassed more than 50 certified hit songs in his formidable repertoire, including “Hindi Kita Malilimutan,” “Nais Ko,” “Paraisong Parisukat,” “You,” “Lift Up Your Hands,” “Ngayon,” “Let the Pain Remain,” “Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan,” “Lead Me, Lord,” “Sana ay Ikaw Na Nga” and “Salamin ng Buhay.”
Joining the country’s premier balladeer in the show’s one-night-only repeat are Megastar Sharon Cuneta, the Ateneo Chamber Singers, musical director (and frequent collaborator) Ryan Cayabyab, and the 42-piece ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
Take it from us, “Basil Valdez @ Solaire” is one of the very best concerts—local or foreign—you’ll see this year.
Kudos to the people behind the show, including Solaire Entertainment director Audie Gemora for making this exceptional OPM showcase possible.
What’s next on Solaire’s OPM menu? We heard it’ll host the grand return of Celeste Legaspi (in August, tentatively)—and we can’t wait to see it! —RITO ASILO
