The seventh season of the Zooey Deschanel comedy “New Girl” will wrap up the show, FOX announced, as it renews its slate of programming for September 2017 and beyond.

Debuting in 2011, “New Girl” brought together Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris as unlikely roommates dealing with their own post-youth career and relationship crisis.

Deschanel came in with a feature film resumé that included “Almost Famous”, “All the Real Girls” and “(500) Days of Summer” while Greenfield was known for “Ugly Betty” and “Veronica Mars” before “New Girl” began.

Johnson went on to appear in Colin Trevorrow’s feature film directorial debut “Safety Not Guaranteed” and box office blockbuster “Jurassic World”, while Morris has been cast in a 2018 comedy thriller from the “Horrible Bosses” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” writers, “Game Night”.

Five nominations at the Golden Globes and five more at the Primetime Emmy Awards followed over the first six seasons, though audience figures for the show fell from 5 million for the start of seasons 3 and 4, to 2 million for the season 6 finale.

Series creator Liz Meriwether has another comedy show, “Thin Ice”, in development, in which a receptionist-turned-researcher (Bridget Mendler of “Nashville”) takes a new job in Antarctica. JB
