Mariel de Leon to basher: ‘I’m not a copycat’

Binibining Pilipinas International 2017 Maria Angelica “Mariel” de Leon, aside from doing her tasks as a beauty queen, now has to face the occasional bashing that comes with being one. Recently, in response to a netizen, de Leon denied that she was copying the look of Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano.

A few days ago, de Leon posted via Instagram a photo of herself with Soberano, expressing her awe at the actress’ beauty.

Just as many noticed their striking resemblance, a netizen stood out from the rest and allegedly called the beauty queen “retokada” (fixed), as reported by Philippine Entertainment Portal.

The basher later deleted the comment. However, de Leon’s response gives a clue to what could have been written by the basher.

As of this writing, commenting on the said post has now been disabled and previous comments can no longer be seen.

Tagging her basher who went by the username, @sweeeeetooth_, De Leon responded calmly.

“Paano kong pinagaya ang mukha niya eh mas matanda ako sa kanya so hindi ko siya kilala dati? Common sense lang po.”

(How could I have copied her face when I am older than her and I have never known her before? Common sense please.)

She then ended her post with a socially relevant message.

“Women empowerment is about raising each other up, not bringing each other down. God bless po!”

Mariel de Leon is the daughter of veteran actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong. JB
