Since she was a kid, R&B star Kyla has dreamed of looking like a princess on her wedding day.
She gets her wish Monday when she ties the knot with Talk ‘N Text cager Rich Alvarez. “Every bride feels special,” she told Inquirer.
With the help of friend-couturier Cocoy Lizaso, she is wearing a “fairy-tale, sweetheart ball gown.”
She’s a hands-on bride, Kyla admitted. Fortunately Rich is a “proactive groom” as well. “We were both very much involved in the preparations,” she said.
First time they sat down with the wedding planner, Kyla couldn’t decide on the theme. “At first, I wanted a country/Hawaiian concept, then Hawaiian,” she recounted. “Our
coordinator, Weng Garcia, was quite confused.”
Finally, the couple settled on vintage glam. Color motif: blush.
Kyla did lots of research, reading bridal magazines and checking out wedding blogs. For her hair and makeup, she saved classic photographs from the golden age of Hollywood on her laptop, to guide stylist Leo Posadas.
As the date approached, she couldn’t contain her excitement, she confessed. A week before Monday, she was still running around, juggling errands.
She had just wrapped up a rehearsal when the Inquirer caught up with her last week for this story. She said she dreaded fumbling when she does her grand wedding dance with Rich, her boyfriend for the past six years. “The dance will be simple and sweet,” she said. “Good thing I’ve had a lot of practice on ‘Party Pilipinas.’”
She’s not singing on her wedding day. During the church rites, La Diva, Yosha, Kris Lawrence and Opera will do the honors. For the reception, Kyla has recruited “Party” costars Janno Gibbs and Jaya to entertain guests. Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera, both from rival show “ASAP,” will cross network lines to grace the occasion as well.
Fellow “Party” hosts Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez lead the lineup of principal sponsors.
Star-studded, indeed. But the evening’s highlight will be her parents’ production number, Kyla said. “They were with the singing group Bagong Himig when they were students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.”
Mom Olivia and dad Ulysis, with titos and titas from Bagong Himig, have been rehearsing tunes handpicked by the bride. “I requested love songs. Mga kundiman.”
