How do you make an already exemplary farewell movie even more iconic? Turn it into black and white.

Hands down one of the best—if not, the best—superhero film of all time, raved upon by viewers and hailed by critics as a masterpiece, the swan song of the Wolverine franchise “Logan” featured a fitting and emotional goodbye to one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) most beloved characters.

Following its international box office success, the film headlined by Hugh Jackman will reportedly return to cinemas on May 16—albeit in a monochromatic adaptation.

The news was first confirmed by none other than the film’s director James Mangold on Twitter over the weekend.

“Suggestion. Hard core B&W loving LOGAN fans should not make any plans on the evening of May 16th,” he wrote.

Although the theatrical release will only be for selected cinemas in the United States, the “noir” version of the film will be included in its home release, scheduled to come out on May 23, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Furthermore, Mangold also explained in a subsequent tweet why the monochrome version took almost two months to come out.

“In converting to black and white, one must determine which hues go dark and light, adjust contrast, blacks. Turning down color on TV just makes gray mush,” he explained.

This is not the first time a highly successful film has been adapted to a monochromatic adaptation, as the 2015 action film “Mad Max: Fury Road” was also re-released in a “black and chrome” edition. Khristian Ibarrola/JB
