Sexy actress Kim Domingo waits for dramatic break

Being packaged as a sexy actress makes Kim Domingo an easy target for bashers in social media. The comments are usually hurtful and can be depressing to read, but she’s learning to take the negativity in stride.

“Some people online tend to be judgmental. I get called all sorts of things. They tell me that I’m a bad example for the youth, that I’m good for nothing besides peeling my clothes off,” Kim, who was discovered while working as a car show model, told the Inquirer at a recent press conference for GMA 7’s afternoon series, “D’Originals.”

The 22-year-old Kapuso talent used to get riled up by the insults she got, so much so that she would sometimes find herself responding to her bashers one by one. Now, she has realized that keeping silent is the best way to go.

“There are times when you can’t help but defend yourself. But as time passed, I observed that the more I pay attention to them, the more emboldened they become,” she pointed out, adding that she was determined to work hard and get better at her craft, so she could prove her doubters wrong.

So far, she usually lands comedic or contravida roles. But she eventually hopes to venture into heavier, more challenging drama. She wants to be an actress—an award-winning one at that.

“I know I can’t do sexy roles forever. After this phase in my career, I’d like to do more serious stuff—it’s my dream,” said Kim, who looks up to her costar Jaclyn Jose.

“Ms. Jaclyn also started out doing sexy roles, but look at her now. She’s an acclaimed actress, a winner in Cannes. If she was able to make that transition, maybe I could, too, if I work hard enough,” surmised Kim, who’s half-French.

But as she waits for that dramatic break she desires, Kim’s currently happy doing lighthearted roles in the gag show, “Bubble Gang,” and in the campy drama, “D’Originals,” where she plays Sofia, a Zumba instructor itching to get even with her philandering husband, Art (Archie Alemania), and his mistress, Alice (Meg Imperial).

“Being a part of ‘Bubble’ has helped me portray Sofia, who’s hyper and loud and acts over the top all the time… I can sustain that level of energy well,” said Kim.

Kim is now starting to see the fruits of her labor for the past two years in show biz.

“I was recently able to buy a house for my family. My family and I come from a humble background, and being able to give my loved ones things they didn’t have makes me happy. It has always been my goal to provide for them and give them a more comfortable life,” Kim said.
