Footage of the late Carrie Fisher will not be used in “Star Wars, Episode IX” after all. The actress’ brother, Todd, who announced her inclusion in the final part of the new trilogy to be released in 2019, may have misinterpreted things, according to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Kennedy, who spoke with ABC, clarified that General Leia’s final appearance will be in “Episode VIII: The Last Jedi,” to be released in December this year.
“[Todd] was probably confused because we finished everything in [Episode] VIII,” said Kennedy. “Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie … Sadly, she won’t be in ‘IX,’ but we’ll see her a lot in ‘VIII,’ which is great.”
Carrie Fisher, who passed away in December, finished filming her scenes in “The Last Jedi” last year. She previously appeared in four main “Star Wars” films as the feisty rebel princess (and later, general) Leia Organa, as well as in the spinoff “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” where her likeness was digitally incorporated.
Josh Brolin nabs second Marvel role
Josh Brolin is already playing cosmic villain Thanos for Marvel Studios, but that isn’t stopping him from nabbing a second role, this time for rival studio 20th Century Fox, who has Marvel’s film rights to the X-Men.
Brolin will portray time-traveling mutant soldier Cable in “Deadpool 2.” Prior to the announcement, a number of actors were named in casting rumors, including Ron Perlman, Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt, Kyle Chandler, Stephen Lang and Michael Shannon.
“Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds jokingly tweeted on his new costar’s casting, “You can’t play two characters in the same universe!”
For his recent Instagram post depicting a comic book drawing of Cable, Brolin captioned, “When you have a man-crush on Ryan Reynolds, what do you do? Crush it!”
Both the “Deadpool” sequel and “Avengers: Infinity War” (where Thanos fights an army of Marvel heroes) will be in cinemas next year. Not bad for someone who hated his 2010 DC movie, the much-derided flop, “Jonah Hex.”
‘13 Reasons’ costars not dating
“13 Reasons Why” costars Miles Heizer (who plays a new student, Alex) and Brandon Flynn (the problematic jock Justin) are just friends—really close, fuss-free buddies, from the looks of it. Obsessed Twitter users may believe otherwise, with approving and gushing posts to prove it, but the attractive actors, both in their 20s, are not a couple.
Heizer’s representative recently told pop culture site Page Six: “Miles and Brandon are friends from the show but are not dating.”
So there, it’s official—but it’s not likely to stop fans from imagining a relationship between the two, who play rival students from the same clique, in the hit drama series.—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
