The storyline of the latest Archie digest “Archie’s Funhouse Spring Annual #26” is set in the Philippines, comic creators have announced this week.
In a preview released on social media, the official Archie Comics page said Archie and his friends were off to Manila for a concert gig as a film crew was documenting their tour.
“The Archies start their world tour with a trip to the Philippines in ARCHIE’S FUNHOUSE SPRING ANNUAL #26, available Wednesday!” the preview read.
“In the new lead story ‘On the Road Again… and Against!,’ the Archies go on tour in the Philippines, while at the same time a documentary is being filmed about them,” it added.
The preview of the dialogues between the characters read:
“Isn’t this exciting? We’re in the Philippines!!”
“I’m sure it’s more exciting for the Philippines that they finally get to see me!”
“Hey, we’re in Manila! It’s the capital of the Philippines!”
“This is where we’re going to play! The Manila concert grounds!”
The character of Jughead Jones was also quoted as saying that he was a “big fan of Filipino culture” and that he had heard that “barbeque in the Philippines is practically an art form.”
The lighthearted comics, which have numerous titles, feature the adventures of teenagers Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Sabrina Spellman, and Josie and the Pussycats.
The Archie line is now the subject of hit US CW television series “Riverdale,” which has a darker theme.
