Sarah on playing Darna: Do you want to see her in a jumpsuit?
If Sarah Geronimo were to portray “Darna,” what would Mars Ravelo’s iconic heroine look like?
At a recent visit to the set of “The Voice Philippines,” Sarah gave her reaction to the rumor that she was one of those considered to topbill the latest adaptation of “Darna. ”
Sarah said that donning the super heroine’s two-piece costume “wasn’t really for me.”
“Would you want to see Darna in a jumpsuit?” she asked.
According to Sarah, more than wearing a classic costume, “Darna also [has to have a sturdy and muscular] physique. But I’m thankful that people think of me as Darna material. ”

On her return to “The Voice Philippines,” Sarah explained that she wanted to train herself “to be more outspoken. ”
Sarah, as well as coaches Lea Salonga, Bamboo Mañalac and Sharon Cuneta, are currently conducting auditions for contestants from ages 13 to 17 for the program’s Teen Edition.
“I’m doing this for aspiring singers,” she added. “This job is very challenging for me because I’m not used to ‘selling’ myself to contestants so they’d choose to be in my group. I also consider this show a training ground. ”
Asked how she felt that the other coaches were happy about her return to the show, Sarah said: “I’m thankful they feel that way. To work with them again is also one of the reasons I came back. It isn’t every day that you get to learn from these music icons. ”
Sarah then pointed out several differences of the show’s new edition from its previous incarnations. “It’s hard to guess the preferences of teen contestants. There were times when an auditionee would look at Coach Lea, but would end up choosing Coach Sharon—and just because my age is closest to theirs doesn’t mean they’d want to join my team. ”
She added: “But it’s obvious in their song choices that they joined the contest to have fun. Unlike us back then, they’re not in competition mode yet. I remember that, even during auditions, we’d already perform songs that required belting.”
