“Voltes V”, the Japanese anime series loved by generations, is making another comeback in sync with its 40th anniversary.
The announcement was recently made on the GMA 7 noontime show “Sunday Pinasaya”, during which a new roster of fresh talents was introduced as the series’ voice cast. The cast on board are actors Derrick Monasterio (Steve Armstrong), Jak Roberto (Mark Gordon), Hiro Peralta (Big Bert Armstrong), Ken Chan (Prince Zardos) and actress Bea Binene (Jamie Robinson).
“Voltes V” was first aired in Japan in 1977 and in the Philippines with English dubs in May 1978, but was shut down by then President Ferdinand Marcos, having aired five episodes. The series, together with another anime series, “Daimos”, made a comeback in 1986 on local channels and, since then, other networks screened “Voltes V” with Tagalog dubs.
Catchy terms, which were first heard on “Voltes V”, became a hit among children, such as “Let’s volt in,” “ultra electromagnetic top” and “laser sword.” The series’ theme song “Voltes V no Uta” instantly became popular, too.
Rumors of a redub of “Voltes V” came forth in 2015, when Chan posted a picture of him dubbing Prince Zardos on his Facebook account. An old Instagram post confirms Alden Richards’ and Louise delos Reyes’ participation in the redubbing of “Daimos,” Anime News Network reported.
