Internet-television giant Netflix is set to release an animated film based on the influential Godzilla franchise.
Following several adaptations for the big screen, the towering monster is expected to appear in a worldwide release, sometime after the film’s Japanese theatrical debut on March 26, gaming website Polygon reported.
Made possible by Toho and Polygon Pictures, the film is directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, whose previous works include high-profile anime titles like “Knights of Sidonia,” “Detective Conan,” “Blame!” and “Psycho-Pass.”
The film’s scriptwriters are those who also wrote the popular “Attack on Titan” and “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures” anime, the report said.
Meanwhile, Godzilla has been around Japanese lore for 63 years, but this is the first time the infamous creature will be portrayed through a so-called “high quality” animated feature film.
Previously, Hanna-Barbera Productions and Fox Kids aired an animated Godzilla series in 1978 and 1998, respectively.
