Brad Pitt offers a take on General Stanley McChrystal in “War Machine”, an Afghan war satire that releases on Netflix in May.
Pitt plays the role of a United States general and polarizing war figure who stepped in to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, but was taken down by a journalist’s exposé.
The movie is based on the book “The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan” by the late journalist Michael Hastings.
David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”) directs what Netflix calls “an absurdist look at a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly.”
Pitt’s co-stars include Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall and Topher Grace.
“War Machine” will be out on May 26. JB
