Lorna Tolentino is one proud lola, even if she doesn’t look like one. Her son Rap’s love child, Lyl, was born on the lucky day, 11/11/11.
“I’m super-happy and blessed to have an apo,” LT beams. “Now I have a new reason to be inspired to work.”
Is she likely to spoil her apo? “Naku, ayaw ni Daboy ng spoiled na bata,” she says. “So even if I pamper Lyl may kasama rin na discipline.”
What are her parenting tips to Rap? “I don’t see the need to teach him,” LT points out. “Nakikita ko naman na he’s doing his best, and so is Leana (Lyl’s mom).”
From grand slam Best Actress to grandma, LT is doing it in style.
Missing dad
LT’s son Rap is equally happy. “I will teach my daughter to have compassion,” he says. “But I will also raise her to be street-smart and instill in her the joy of reading.”
Being a dad makes Rap miss his dad, Rudy Fernandez, all the more. “How I wish my dad were still here to see his apo,” Rap says. “But I know he’s watching over us. I will treat Lyl the way my dad treated me. It’s my turn.”
Any marriage plans? “No to marriage and no to live-in,” he says. “Leana and I are on good terms. We will keep our relationship child-centered.”
To paraphrase his dad’s famous line, “Walang kasalan, pagmamahal lang.”
Blushing bride
On November 19, Juris tied the knot with her nonshow biz BF, Gavin. “He’s meant for me,” says the acoustic singer. “Our wedding was everything I dreamt of.”
The processional song was “I Will Be Here” and the bridal march, “Now that I Have You” by the Company.
Her song for her hubby? “We have so many theme songs,” Juris says. “But if I had to pick one, it would be ‘Come Away with Me’ by Norah Jones.”
Will she give up singing to be a full-time housewife? “That hasn’t crossed my mind,” she says. “As long as gusto pa akong marinig ng tao, I guess I still have a place in the industry.”
Juris’ wedding was the coming to life of every love song she ever sang.
Best teacher
Derek Ramsey is one of the few models who managed to turn into a real actor. “Experience is the best teacher,” he points out. “Even if I come from a family of means, I chose to experience the nitty-gritty of life by running away and living in a depressed area. It’s a chapter of my life from which I now draw substance for my job as an actor.”
He’s being hailed as Star Cinema’s newest box-office actor (after the success of “No Other Woman”), but he keeps his feet on the ground—with his fingers crossed, as he eyes an award.
