Had enough of sister-to-sister catfights on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”? Then, this reality show featuring real-time, yet adorable, fights between cats is for you, for a change.
An online series called “Keeping Up with the Kattarshians” has delivered positive vibes across Iceland. The hit reality series stars feline siblings Guðni, Ronja, Briet and Stubbu, who had been abandoned and later found at a car park in Reykjavik. Since then, they have adjusted to a new life inside a pastel-colored dollhouse with GoPro cameras, beds, fluffy pillows and furniture.
The 24/7 live-streaming show, which is sponsored by Icelandic Cat Protection Society to entice Icelanders to adopt stray kittens, has scored a huge number of views on online broadcaster Nutiminn. The kittens are filmed as they roam around, play and ruin home decorations.
Inga Lind Karlsdóttir, the show’s creator, told Vice’s Broadly how she came up with the “purrfect” idea of a cat reality show. The concept was jokingly pitched by a colleague and after a year, they are accoladed for Keeping Up with the Kattarshian’s victory among cat lovers.
“We like everything they do. It’s fun when they go crazy and ruin the house, but it’s also calming to watch them sleep. It’s good for the soul,” she said. “It took about a year to put together because we wanted all the animal welfare authorities to approve it. And here we are, a year later, with the first reality TV show starring kittens.”
Karlsdóttir elucidated that in this world filled with misery and stress brought by global issues, it’s calming for people like her to watch cuddly pets frolicking around.
The four kittens are now adopted and they will be replaced by a new cast for the show’s next season. Gianna Francesca Catolico
