Gabby on KC’s love life: ‘Parang teleserye,’ hard to keep track of

KC and Gabby Concepcion: “She’s my daughter... I don’t like seeing her hurt.”

When actress and TV host KC Concepcion went to Paris for a vacation last October to “think things over” and “find herself again,” long-standing gossip about her rumored breakup with boyfriend Piolo Pascual was reignited.

While KC and Piolo looked sweet together in videos of their recent US concert tour, the two have remained tightlipped on the real score between them. People could only speculate – and this includes KC’s dad Gabby Concepcion, who can’t seem to keep up with his daughter’s whirlwind romance.

Speaking to reporters at the launch of TV5 and Viva Entertainment’s series adaptation of “P.S. I Love You,” Gabby admitted he was clueless about KC and Piolo’s relationship status. He jested, “Masyadong mahirap sundan, parang teleserye!”

The 47-year-old actor stressed he’s not one to meddle with others’ love life, and “especially” not KC’s.

He explained: “She’s my daughter [but she’s responsible for] her own relationships. No one can dictate who we choose to love; it’s the heart that decides. Challenges are needed in a relationship to know whether or not you’re meant for each other.”

With Megastar Sharon Cuneta as her mother, KC will always be under the public’s watchful eye and scrutiny, Gabby pointed out. He said it pains him to see his daughter fending off nasty rumors being constantly thrown at her.

‘She’s in control’

“Masakit sa ’kin as a parent.” he said. “I don’t like seeing her hurt. People criticize her every move – that’s tough. She’s vulnerable to intrigues [although] it’s a natural thing in show biz and she just needs to prepare herself emotionally. She shouldn’t take it personally. Pero malaki ang tiwala ko kay KC. She’s very intelligent and she can control her emotions.”

When it comes to love advice, Gabby said he can’t give his daughter any that she hasn’t already heard from friends. “Pero siyempre iba pa rin kapag kaharap niya ako. I would take a bullet for her,” he said.

For now, Gabby believes it would be better for KC to focus on her career. He said she has confided in him about her need to work harder, because people expect a lot from her.

“I think she’s pressured, being our firstborn,” Gabby said. “She just works and works. I tell her to just let things flow and take their natural course.”

Asked if he and Sharon still have constant communication, Gabby simply said, “Nag-uusap kami.”

Gabby recently signed with Viva Artists Agency after his two-year stint with ABS-CBN. As a Viva talent, Gabby said that he can now work with TV5, ABS-CBN, or GMA 7. Is he open to doing TV or movie projects with Sharon in the future?

“I’m looking forward to working in a good project with her. I don’t mind working with anybody as long as I feel na maganda ’yung story,” he said.

The TV version of “P.S. I Love You,” which starts airing tomorrow (after “Glamorosa”) is not a remake but a sequel to the 1981 film that starred the Gabby and Sharon love team. With the events taking place decades after the original story, Gabby will reprise his role as Mark, while Dina Bonnevie will replace Sharon as Kristine.
