“It’s a responsibility that seems too big for me,” said Coco Martin when asked why he has turned down the offer for him to be president of the Kapisanan ng mga Artista sa Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon or KAPPT.

Coco said the idea was proposed to him by current KAPPT president Rez Cortez, who’s also his costar in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.” “I told Tito Rez I wasn’t ready yet. On the set, he observed how well I took care of my staff,” he said.

Coco said that while his main goal was to help fellow actors, he wanted to do this “on my own terms.”

The actor pointed out: “I’m still too young and inexperienced to be president. It’s important that I know what I’m doing before I assume responsibility over something as significant as the actors’ guild.”

What Coco said he wanted to delve into was the production of free TV shows online. “It’s good because there will be no network involvement. It’s like working on an indie movie. I’ll make this happen this year,” he declared.

He said he hoped to give more artists, especially those considered “semiretired,” another shot at acting.

The 35-year-old actor is so focused on work that he seems to have no more time for his personal life. Coco, however, said he didn’t mind this at all. “I love what I’m doing. I’m excited to wake up each morning and get to work. ”

He said there would eventually be a time when he’d be told to lie low. “I’ll be ready when that happens, and I’ll have no regrets. ”

This is also why Coco is in no hurry to plunge into a serious relationship with anyone just yet. The actor is rumored to have dated 21-year-old actress Julia Montes.

“Been there, done that. I had my first girlfriend at 15. Life was difficult then,” he stressed. “My love life is not a priority. I’ve set a deadline for myself. I’ll start searching for that ideal partner when I turn 40. That will be a turning point in my life.”
