Debby Boone pays tribute to Karen Carpenter
Debby Boone, the American recording artist behind the 1977 hit ballad, “You Light Up My Life,” is set to hold a three-night Karen Carpenter tribute concert in the country: March 8 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum; March 10 at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City; and at SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City. For tickets, call 9115555.
Titled “Debby Boone Sings Karen Carpenter,” the series of gigs—mounted by Ovation Productions—will have the 60-year-old singer-author breathing life into some of the late icon’s enduring songs, including “(They Long to Be) Close to You,” “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days and Mondays” and “Top of the World.”
Debby, the daughter of another industry legend, Pat Boone, is a three-time Grammy-winning singer, who later on ventured into country and Christian music. She has 12 albums—the latest one being 2013’s “Swing This.” Debby has also written six children’s books. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
