Kylie and Aljur finally confirm pregnancy and engagement
Controversial couple Kylie Padilla and Aljur Abrenica have broken off their silence about recent issues plaguing their careers, and finally, both gave their admissions about Kylie’s pregnancy and clarified issues surrounding their engagement.
After weeks of speculation over the alleged pregnancy of the actress by boyfriend Aljur Abrenica, the couple finally decided to face the public once and for all via an exclusive interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal at the actor’s Quezon City home.
Engagement clarified
Shortly after the pregnancy issue came out, news of the engagement followed when Padilla’s management, Vidanes Celebrity Marketing, posted a congratulatory message for the two. The announcement further fueled speculations about the two.
However, the actor revealed he is actually quite displeased over the sudden disclosure of an engagement, especially at the height of the pregnancy rumor:
“The reason why kung bakit tayo nandito ngayon ay dahil sa issue na engagement. Unang-una, ang engagement ay nangyari between two people, kami ni Kylie. May lumabas na post na pinangunahan kami.”
(“The reason why we are here is because of the issue of engagement. First, the engagement is between two people, Kylie and me. A post came out preempting us.”)
“Sentimental ang engagement para sa akin, kahit sino’ng tao, di ba? Kahit kayo, napangunahan kayo sa balita, na dapat kayo ang unang naglalabas nito. Ang engagement kasi, minsan lang ‘yan nangyari sa buhay natin, e,” Abrenica opens.
(“An engagement is sentimental for me, and for anyone, right? If you would be preempted by the news, about something that you should be the first to announce… An engagement happens only once in a lifetime.”)
“Sa ating dalawa, masaya ako na nangyari yun, at hindi muna ako nagsalita dahil advice nila. So, sa totoo lang, medyo nabastusan ako sa ginawa nila,” he stressed, pertaining to the post of VCM.
(“For the two of us, I am happy for what has happened. I did not speak at first out of their advice. In truth, I felt offended by their rudeness.”)
For him, it was very discourteous of VCM to preempt such an announcement without even advising the personalities involved themselves, and ask if they are affirmative of the decision.
While Abrenica aired his disappointments, Padilla interrupted, saying, “Mahal ko management ko.” (“I love my management.”)
Still, Abrenica stressed that he and Kylie should have been consulted by VCM first. He said he would have been totally cool with it if it were his fiancee who announced it first, because the agreement was between them. The 26-year-old actor stresses that his sentiments should be out because the announcement further fired up the already blazing issues surrounding them.
Contrary to public speculation caused by the sudden announcement, the engagement between the two Kapuso stars turns out to have happened months ago, in November of last year, when the two were in Japan.
“Before pa nangyari ang lahat ng ito, before pa nangyari ang rumors tungkol sa pregnancy at pagbabatikos sa aming dalawa, meron nang engagement na nangyari,” Abrenica revealed.
(“Before all of these happened, before the rumors about the pregnancy and the criticisms against the two of us, there has already been an engagement.”)
The soon-to-be groom said he does not like how things turned out after the announcement, that everything seemed as if they were forced to get engaged because of the rumors, when in fact, the real engagement came in way before all the social turmoil came out.
Three marriage proposals
Because of the widespread social assault that his lady love has been experiencing, the actor said he could not let this constant bashing prolong, and thus he and Padilla revealed more details about their engagement.
The two shared an incident in Tokyo Disney Sea, during one of their planned trips, where Padilla introduced Abrenica to the Disney character of the Little Mermaid. Abrenica appeared distracted and not listening to Kylie’s Disney talk because apparently, he was already intending to propose.
That day was marked by Kylie posting on Instagram, “Happiest tears ever cried at Tokyo Disney Sea.”

Abrenica then rebutted, “Kaya dun pa lang, nag-propose na ako sa kanya.” (“From there, I have actually already proposed to her.”)
Padilla then answered, “Akala ko nga joke, pero nag-yes ako!” (“I even thought it was a joke, but I said ‘yes.'”)
It was until after they went back home to the country that the second proposal happened.
They have been living together
After their Japan trip and the proposals that ensued, the newly-engaged couple revealed that they decided to live together, to see for themselves if they are truly ready for the married life ahead. Abrenica said that he wants to test the waters first before he completely jumps in, unlike other celebrities he knows that waited until marriage to figure this out, only to separate after sometime.
“Kasi ayokong magaya sa ibang artists, pasintabi sa kanila, after a couple of years, after nilang ipakasal, naghihiwalay. So, naging praktikal lang kami, tiningnan namin,” Abrenica explained.
(“I don’t want to be like other artists, with all due respect to them, who separate after a couple of years, after they get married. So we just wanted to be practical, we tried living together.”)
The moment the actor proposed, he held out an aluminum wire to play a ring as he popped the question.
“Meron akong nakitang bakal na may plastic na kulay green, prinipare ko talaga para alam nila, ito siya…,” This is apparently the time when he felt he had to drop his third proposal. “Nag-propose ulit ako sa kanya”.
(“I saw a wire wrapped with green plastic, I prepared it so people would know. I proposed to her again.”)
The actor then realized that it is every girl’s dream to have a ring to symbolize an envisioned and budding future with the man she loves. He then decided to make everything real and buy a diamond ring for her.
“Kahit wala akong trabaho ngayon, matagal na yung huling project ko sa GMA, meron naman akong naipon, bumili ako ng singsing para sa kanya,” he said.
(“Though I do not have work right now, it’s been a while since my last project with GMA, I have savings, and bought a ring for her out of that.”)
Padilla says she feels very happy and everything was on a slow pace until it finally sunk in with that last proposal.
“Nung eto na, medyo alam kong seryoso na… Pero I considered myself engaged na. Kasi, sino ba namang babae ang hindi sasaya, di ba, na gusto kang pakasalan ng lalaking mahal mo? I considered it, pero ano pa, light pa. I wasn’t thinking about [the married] life, ganito, ganyan. Pero nung nakita ko ‘to [the ring], parang, ‘Oh, my gosh, ito na nga yun! Ito na nga.‘”
(“When this [proposal] happened, I knew it was already serious. I already considered myself engaged. What girl would not be happy if the guy she loves wants to marry her? I considered it, but it was still light then. I wasn’t thinking about the married life, like this and that. But when I saw the ring, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is it! This is really it!'”)
Abrenica once and for all clarifies, “So, ‘yun ‘yung mga nangyari, engagement muna bago nangyari yung mga rumored pregnancy”.
(“So that’s what happened, engagement first before the rumored pregnancy.”)
Pregnancy confirmed
Not long after the two have decided to live together, they did not expect that their child will come so early into their lives.
“So, sa pagsasama namin ni Kylie, naramdaman niya na parang nabuntis siya. So, after a couple of weeks, nag-pregnancy test siya, and it’s positive,” Abrenica said.
(“So while we were living together, Kylie felt that she might be pregnant. So after a couple of weeks, she took a pregnancy test, and it’s positive.”)
Padilla said the pregnancy did not come as a surprise to her because she is very aware of her body.
“Actually, before the pregnancy test, alam ko na kasi very aware ako sa katawan ko,” she said.
(“Actually, before the pregnancy test, I already knew because I am very aware of my body.”)
It was her fiancee who insisted they should make sure and had her checked at an OB-gyne in St. Luke’s.
Even if born out of wedlock, the two consider the baby a blessing and they are very delighted to welcome their little one. Abrenica says he is very much happy that he is having a child with the woman he loves so much.
“So, blessing. Ayun ang nakakatuwa kasi… masaya, kasi blessing yun, e. Sino ba naman ang hindi sasaya na nagkaroon ka ng anak, bilang isang lalaki, sa babaeng mahal na mahal mo,” he said.
(“So, blessing. It makes us happy because it’s a blessing. What man would not be happy to have a child with the woman he loves so much.”)
He also clarified that while they separated before, it was only a time off for them to be more mature.
“Ever since naman, never na ako nagkaroon ng relationship. Kasi by that time na nagkahiwalay kami ni Kylie, it wasn’t really paghihiwalay, e. Ang separation namin, it’s like time for getting [mature]. Panahon siya para ayusin namin ang sarili namin para mag-mature,” Abrenica concluded.
(Ever since, I never had any other relationship. When Kylie and I separated, it wasn’t really a split. Our separation was like time for getting mature. It was a time for us to focus on and fix ourselves to mature.”)
