Not only is she an iconic singer and Instagram luminary, Selena Gomez is also a producer for an upcoming Netflix series.
The “Kill ‘Em with Kindness” songstress teased a trailer on Instagram for her upcoming “passion project” entitled “Thirteen Reasons Why.” The story, based on a Jay Asher’s bestseller novel of the same title, spins around the cryptic suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who records several cassette tapes and sends it to her classmate Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) prior to taking her life. The tapes pinpoint 12 nuisance schoolmates, including Jensen, who contributed problems to her teenage years.
“I’m about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended,” Baker narrated in the trailer, which also discloses the faces of her “killers.”
“A peek at a passion project I’ve been working on with Netflix,” Gomez said.
Billboard reported that Gomez, 24, has been involved in the project since October 2015 after she was drawn to the novel’s grim and ominous plot of teen suicide. She teamed up with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and producer Kristel Laiblin to spin off its screen adaptation.
