The Philippines bagged three nods for “Ang Babaeng Humayo” at this year’s Asian Film Awards, which will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center on March 21. Nominees Charo Santos (best actress) and Lav Diaz (best director and screenplay) share their thoughts on the triple nominations.

Santos told the Inquirer: “As I’ve said in my interviews when I accepted this film, I really just wanted to work with Lav. I never expected anything else. The Golden Lion win for the movie in last year’s Venice Film Festival was indeed a great honor for everyone involved in the project. And now these nominations! Wow! What a happy new year!”

Diaz, who was in Belgrade, Serbia for the 10th Kustendorf Film and Music Festival at the time the nominations were announced last week, told the Inquirer via e-mail: “It’s cool that we’re nominated. We are happy for Charo. All these [nods] are dedicated to our country, of course.” —BAYANI SAN DIEGO JR.
