Singer-actress Angeline Quinto recounted her experience when she joined the procession in Quiapo during the Feast Day of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9:

“I was just 10 years old when my Mama Bab (Sylvia Quinto) introduced me to the Black Nazarene. We would go to Quiapo every Sunday and first Friday of the month to hear Mass. It was after I won as grand winner of ‘Star Power’ that I said I wanted to climb His carriage every year to touch Him. I know it’s frightening, because anything can happen once you’re with the huge crowd.

“It’s true that people die every year during the procession. I’m lucky that there was a group from Makati City that helped me this year.
“But it took a while for me to jump down, because I had trouble looking for the people who were supposed to catch me.

“I didn’t ask for anything from Him anymore. I just thanked Him that I have work, and that my family and I have a place we can call home.”—MARINEL R. CRUZ
