It’s a one-time-big-time thing,” said actor Enrique Gil of the pricey Chanel bag he gave on-screen partner and rumored girlfriend Liza Soberano in December.
The much-talked-about gift, as described in an article posted on ABS-CBN’s website, was a Chanel Boy Flap bag, which comes in different sizes and styles, and costs between P200,000 and P300,000. It is made of black diamond quilted caviar leather and antique gold hardware.
“It’s easier to buy a diamond ring than to find that particular bag. I asked a cousin of mine who has a bag business to help me. Her supplier was able to find one last piece… in Italy,” Enrique shared with reporters on Wednesday at the press conference for his latest endorsement, Grips Hair Wax and Clay.
“I know she would rather spend for her family than herself so I bought it for her,” the actor said.
Enrique said that even though Liza wanted the bag, “it wasn’t her priority. She is the family’s breadwinner. I thought that she deserved it so I got it for her. ”
Another gift from Enrique was Liza’s first trip to Japan last Christmas season. Sadly, he wasn’t able to join because of visa requirements.
“She has never been to Disneyland so I wanted to be the one to take her there. My visa wasn’t released in time for the trip. They all pushed through because the tickets and hotel accommodations have already been settled. They went to Disneyland, Disney Sea and then to Universal Studios,” Enrique recalled.
The actor spent the holidays at his rest house in Anilao, Batangas.
Enrique said the best gift he got in 2016 was the flyboard Liza gave him that reportedly cost her about P150,000.
“She said she has already ordered her gift for me for this year but it has not been delivered yet. Maybe it will arrive in time for Valentine’s Day,” he said.
Enrique and Liza are currently working on a film, titled “My Ex and Why’s” by director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Enrique described it as “one of the most truthful stories/scripts that we have ever worked on. It’s also more mature. The story starts with us already being former lovers. We broke up because I cheated on her,” he explained. “I said it’s truthful because our lines of dialogue were based on stories of real couples whom we talked with. They’re funny but they’re not sugar-coated.”
