Cara Delevingne recently ventured out into South Sudanese refugees’ camps in Uganda for a humanitarian program.
The British actress-model participated in the United Nations’ Girl Up Campaign, an initiative that targets to empower women through education and opportunities. “So excited to be in Uganda with Girl Up campaign and UN refugees, can’t wait for tomorrow. I’ve learned so much and this is just the beginning,” she captioned her snap on Instagram.
During her stay, she met empowered and determined women including 17-year-old Mary, a teen mother.
“This is 17-year-old Mary who is holding her two months old child after fleeing from South Sudan to Uganda. Something I have seen here and have been completely blown away by is the unparalleled strength of the mothers,” she posted on Instagram.

Delevingne visited the refugees’ communities and interacted with the children. She was even surprised with a performance from girls at the Bidibidi refugee settlement.
“I [was] [am] totally blown away today at Bidibidi primary school we were greeted by the children doing the Bola dance,” she captioned another post, where she filmed South Sudanese people dancing in groups.
According to Girl Up, over 450,000 South Sudanese refugees entered Uganda last July, and numbers will continue to spike unless rape, extrajudicial killings and ethnic violence cease in their nation.
Meanwhile, Delevingne, 24, has been active in the campaign since October 2014. Gianna Francesca Catolico
